Community Overview
Our clinic is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) community health clinic. Our mission is to provide accessible, culturally sensitive, affordable, quality-driven, patient-centered health services to the community, with an emphasis on the underserved. Our family physicians (and one internist) share hospital call and clinic responsibilities. The person who is on-call at the hospital acts as the “hospitalist” for all of our clinics’ inpatients during those days. Currently all of our family physicians also do non-operative obstetrics. We also have mid-level providers (Physician Assistants and Family Nurse Practitioner) as well as a counselor (and a part-time psychiatric nurse practitioner) for mental health access. Our community is a medium sized town surrounded by a number of small rural communities. Our patient population is approximately 1/3 uninsured; 1/3 Medicaid or Medicare; and 1/3 private insurance. These ratios fluctuate slightly with changes in the economy. We seek to serve our community by offering excellent care and eliminating barriers to health. *Come to one of the best places to live and play. We have an urban and growing population of approximately 60,000 and have experienced a new “boom” in the past few years with several large housing developments being built and many new businesses locating in the area. We are one of a small number of communities in the U.S. with a growing economy. We offer a variety of outdoor recreational activities abound in the outdoors, including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, white water rafting, hunting, fishing, etc., are all easily available and are frequent hobbies of the doctors here.
